Holiday Reading Challenge #1 - Soundtrack

Title - The Shining
Author - Stephen King
Type of Book - Horror

Skip to My Lou's lyrics was repeated in the book several times. Danny's mother sang the song to him, causing Danny to remember the song.

Lyrics:
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip to my Lou, my darlin'.
Fly's in the buttermilk,
Shoo, fly, shoo,
Fly's in the buttermilk,
Shoo, fly, shoo,
Fly's in the buttermilk,
Shoo, fly, shoo,
Skip to my Lou, my darlin'.
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip to my Lou, my darlin'.
Cows in the cornfield,
What'll I do?
Cows in the cornfield,
What'll I do?
Cows in the cornfield,
What'll I do?
Skip to my Lou, my darlin'.
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip to my Lou, my darlin'.
There's a little red wagon,
Paint it blue
ThereÃœs a little red wagon,
Paint it blue
ThereÃœs a little red wagon,
Paint it blue
Skip to my Lou, my darlin'.
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip, skip, skip to my Lou,
Skip to my Lou, my darlin'.

Dumplings

Dumplings
Ingredients:
  • Packet of ready made dumpling dough
  • Chives
  • Prawn
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Oil
Method:
  1. Cut the chives, mince the pork and chop the prawn.  Mix it together with oil, salt and pepper in a bowl.

  1. Grab one dumpling dough, put it in the palm of your hand.

  1. Use a spoon, fork or chopsticks, gather some dumpling mix and put it in the middle of your dough.  (The dough must not be too big or too small, around 1/7 of the size of your dough).

  1. Use water to smear the edge of the dough, so that it sticks when you cook it.

  1. Add folds the dough, one for beauty and the other to strengthen it.

  1. Add water till 2/3 level of your pot.  Boil it.  Add the dumplings.

  1. When the dumpling floats to the surface, add a cup or two of cold water and let it cook.

  1. When the water boils again, the dumplings are ready.

Optional:
Fry the boiled dumplings on both sides till the sides are golden brown.

Zhao zhi, as we call dumplings in China, can be fried or boiled.  It could be a special dish eaten on New Years, or a afternoon snack.  The dumpling mix can also be varied, to suit people's needs.  The most popular type in my family is pork with chives.  Recommended to eat with soy sauce.
