Working with my Critical Friend

Today we partnered up with a critical friend, who's job is to spot the mistakes in your writing and helped us to see it and fix it. It was really helpful, because my critical friend found a few errors that I never realised was there. After commenting on the writing, we referenced the writing toolbox to see what level we are on and what we can do better. In the toolbox, there are many different sections of how to improve and score the text, along with things you can do to go to the next level.

×8

We practised our multiplicative solutions, and gave two ways to solve the problem. We also recognized if the question is asking us to use division or multiplication.

The Black Book of Colours

This is the book I recommended as Duffy in the school assembly.
Author: Menena Cottin

It’s about how a blind child perceive colours. Instead of seeing, he can feel, touch and smell them. This book is entirely made of black, except for the writing. It also includes Braille letters, which is a language made by using raised dots to represent each letter of the alphabet.

You can find this book in the library under sophisticated picture books in the fiction section.
Thanks for listening.
And remember it’s cool to read!

Xtramaths

I finished all four sections of Xtra-maths.
It took me around two weeks.

Holiday Reading #3 Recommendation

Title: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Author: Lewis Carroll
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy
I would recommend this book to Linda and Nesi.
1. Even though the language style is old, it is perfectly easy to understand.
2. The book is actually quite short. It took me just one day to finish it.
3. If you read the original version, it contains pictures to help understand the story better. Countless other retells have illustrations too.

Shading

This is what I know about shading. It is hard to fit a picture in there, so I didn't attempt to.

Fraction Knowledge

I am learning to order fractions with different denominators within a short amount of time. This will help me on my test, and for more difficult problems later on.

Vending Machine Problem

I used my multiplication and division knowledge to solve this problem. A similar problem I came up with is 'if 8 pieces of candy is 2/9 of the entire bag of treats, and the other are pieces of chocolate, how many chocolate pieces are there'?

Paul Cezanne Still Life

We tried to replicate Paul Cezanne's still life paintings. To the left is the original, and to the right is my version. I think that the colours that I used are too dark, and the brush is too thick to paint the details. The jar also looks crooked, and I will try to improve on that later. One thing I did learn is how to shade using darkening colours.
