Guy Fawkes GoAnimate

(Trying to) Blow up the Parliment by Mengchun on GoAnimate

This is our modern interpretation of the Guy Fawkes story. It shows how Guy Fawkes felt when the King sent his men down into the cellar to capture him, and how the King(prime minister) reacted to the letter about someone's betrayal.

Moon Festival

Our family celebrates the Moon Festival, or the mid-Autumn festival, every year.  As its name implies, it is celebrated in mid Autumn.  Or more specifically, the 15th of the 8th of the Lunar year.  During the Moon Festival, people gather with their families and friends, or anyone they are close to.  Most Chinese families eat moon cakes, my family also have a traditional Chinese lunch and dinner.  We start off with a normal breakfast.

In the morning, my family eat toast with chocolate, peanut or butter spread for breakfast, and my sibling’s eat it with cereal.  But my dad likes to eat rice with any leftovers from the day before.  We don’t have any moon cakes the morning because my mum says it’s too sweet.  Sometimes I make instant coffee for the grown-ups in the morning (mum, dad and me), or just tea for myself.  We start eating moon cakes in the afternoon.

My brother and sister eat moon cakes in the afternoon for snacks at around 12 or 1, but not so many.  We have mooncakes in the afternoon thanks to my mum buying too many deluxe packs (which she does every year).  For lunch we usually have homemade dumplings or noodles in the fridge made by mum from yesterday.  One time my baby sister tried to make it, it ended up in a mess.  The dumplings are filled with eggs, bacon and beans it is delicious!  After some time after lunch, the sun begins to set, and it’s time for dinner, and more moon cakes.

When dad comes home at night, the tables are probably already set.  Dinner is the most important meal of the day to us.  We have fish, pork, vegetables, and of course, moon cakes!  Last year’s Moon Festival my mum’s friends came to New Zealand to take a tour.  They dropped by our house a day before the Moon Festival.  We had chicken wings, sweet and sour soup and fried rice.  After dinner, if we’re not full enough, we have a lot of moon cakes for dessert.  We get candy afterwards, and it’s always the brand that mixes a lot of candy together.

The Moon Festival is important to many Chinese families.  Where they are, they always gather at one place, home or restaurant, to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.  The lunar year calendar is different from the calendar we’re using, so the date changes every year.  This year’s Moon Festival is on the 8th of September, so the mooncakes are in stock in supermarkets.  My mum always buys the deluxe pack at the local Chinese market.

Film Festival Reflection

Yesterday, the 14th of November, hundreds of school went to silverpark, hoyts cinema to take part in the film festival.  We participate too.  My favourite movie is Grumpy bear from Glenbrae School and Ash in the Air from our school.  I saw one of my friend in the movie.  I would like to try Doctor Who and movies from St. Patricks.  I think it is good to have a film festival because schools can share their learning and their videos.

Halloween Narrative

The Black Mansion

“Emma, wake up!”  Mrs Elson called.  “What, mum?” Emma replied in a deep, bothered voice.  “Its Saturday, why do you wake me up at...”  Emma looked at the clock.  “9:24?”  Mrs Elson poured a whole basket of Halloween candy.  “Help me put the decoration on and invite the new girl who had just moved here, Lucy, into your Halloween group.”  Mrs Elson put a bag of un-blown balloons with Halloween pictures on Emma’s desk.  Emma got out of bed, did everything a normal person would do in the morning, and walked straight out of the house, pretending to forget about the balloons.  She arrived at the girl’s house quickly and knocked on the door.  “Yes?  Who’s there?” a tall woman with short, brown hair wearing a hand-knitted jumper answered.  “Uuh...I’m Emma and I’m here to invite Lucy into our Halloween group” Emma whispered.  The woman called out: ”LUCY!”  A girl with long dark brown hair tied into two high ponytails rushed out.  “Yes, mum?” the girl had a high, bird tweet like voice.  “This is Emma.”  Emma waved with a not-sure smile. “Nice to meet you!  I’m Lucy.  I just moved here.” Lucy said.  “I’m here to invite you to the Trick or treat group.”  Emma pointed down the flat, where to organising takes place.  “Really?  Of course I’m coming!”  Lucy stomped into her sandals and ran.

“Hey!” Malia waved.  They are already in their Halloween costumes.  Malia the fairy, Josh the frankenstein, Harry the clown, Tim the ghost and Susie the mouse.  “We’re waiting for you!”  Once Lucy and Emma joined the group, Malia repeated their plan again.  “This Halloween we’re going to trick or treat all the house, no matter what.”  Malia looked at Lucy.  “What’s your name, new member?”  “Lucy.”  “Good.  Lets go.”  They went out of the flat.  They went through all the house in the Hilton area except the mansion.  They got a bags full of Halloween candy.  “Lets go home now!”  Tim said.  “No.  What about the mansion?” Malia insisted.  Emma and Lucy looking at Malia and Tim.  Tim frowned, like he’s going to cry.  “Go home if you want, scaredy cat.”  Malia said without looking at him.  For the next 5 minutes, Tim followed Malia without a word.  Suddenly they arrived at the mansion.  Malia knocked on the door.  “Hello?  Helloooo?  We’re here for halloween.  Anyways, Trick or Treat!”  The door opened and dust flew everywhere.

The little group of seven kids entered the Mansion.  Spiderweb everywhere, the furniture is not covered.  Which means, there is people living here.  “How can they live in a rusty place like this?”  Susie tried to dodge all the spiderweb, but one fell on her head without noticing.  “I don’t know.  But the people living here really got a poor taste.”  Josh lifted a little plate which has painting of angels.  “Anyways, lets look around.”  Emma said.  They turned right and entered the bedroom.  In the bedroom, there is a bed, of course, and a closet, a cupboard, a table and a rusted old mat.  Emma looked up, there is a broken bulb in a dusty lamp.  “Lets try to turn the lights on!”  Harry pulled the handle.  Nothing happened.  “Oh, whatever.  Malia walked out of the bedroom.”  Lucy don’t know what to do.  She came here for candy, but she got herself into trouble.  She followed Malia and so does everyone else.  Emma stayed in the bedroom, feeling a little strange.  She went under the bed and found a little book.  The title is Diary.   She stuffed it in her pocket.  They got back to the hallway, past the door, and enter the living room.  Emma felt a cold breeze behind her, like some kind of black shadows.  Emma followed the group upstairs.

Upstairs is another living room, but cozier.  There’s A little fireplace at the corner.  Two sofas and a little table around it.  Around the other corner, a little chess board and two cushies.  Lucy went to the bookshelf  and picked the family album.  She turned a few pages, slipped a little photo into her pocket and put the book back.  Malia sat on the sofa, try to enjoy the warm fire.  “We aren’t suppose to touch things here.”  Susie whispered.  “Well, there may not EVEN be people here...”  Malia said in a bossy sound, when she tried to finish her sentence off,  footsteps made a klick klack sound.  Everyone faced over the way of the footsteps.  “Hello, children.”  A tall man with a funny mustache, wearing a black suit and shiny black shoes walk out.  “Yes, suddenly someone!”  Malia yelled.  “Trick or treat!”  The man dropped candy on everyone’s hands.  “Thank you.  Now bye!” Tim ran off.  “Wait a minute, little boy.” the man sounds like dracula.  Tim stopped.  Emma stared and so does everyone else.  Tim flew back and BOOM he flew into the fireplace.  “Tim!” Harry yelled.  I forgot to mention earlier, but Harry is Tim’s elder brother.  “Don’t worry, children.  This is only a projector picture.” He reached into his pocket and clicked a little remote.  The fire disappeared.  Inside is Tim and cushion covering every wall.  Tim is tied up.  “What does this mean, Mr Dracula?”  Emma said.  Lucy went and tried to untie Tim, but got blocked by an invisible wall.  “Well, ladies and gents, I gave you something to eat, now you're paying me back.”  He showed his red teeth.

“For a century I’ve lived here.  Downstairs is made to make people feel like this is a haunted house so no one will come upstairs.  But a few little kids has the courage to come upstairs, where I really live.  I’m impressed.  Anyway, have I mentioned that I’m a vampire?”  Emma grabbed the little diary from her pocket(the book she found from under the bed, if you can’t remember)and flapped the pages.  A little paper flew out of the book.  She picked it up.  It says Code to fireplace corner: 3957’  Emma gave the paper to Lucy.  Lucy found a calculator-like thing next to the fireplace.  She entered 3957 and Tim is free!  Now everyone started to run outside.  “Don’t you dare to run, little crisps!”  Mr Dracula followed.  Everyone ran downstairs, but Emma and Lucy ran into the balcony.  Mr Dracula followed Emma and Lucy because they are slower.  “Quick, here Lucy!”  Lucy stepped beside Emma.  “2 more minutes before sunrise.  Remember, he’s a vampire!”  Emma said.  “But I can finish you girls in just 5 seconds.”  Mr Dracula walked as slowly as he could, approaching Emma and Lucy. They back off and off, but they reached the limit at no time.  “Now you got nowhere to run!  Hahaha!” Mr Dracula laughed.  Just before Mr Dracula touched the girls, the picture in Lucy’s pocket fell.  Mr Dracula stared at the photo that fell out Lucy’s pocket.  It was a picture of a woman.  Emma looked at her watch.  “10 sec before sunrise.” Emma telled Lucy.  But Mr Dracula put his concentration on the girls again.  “DO YOU THINK YOU CAN ESCAPE ME LIKE THAT?”  Emma looked at her watch again.  “3...2...1... sunrise!”  The warm sun shined.  “NNOOO!” Mr Dracula shouted, and turned into dust, and so does the mansion.  Lucy and Emma got home.

“Heres your share, Lucy.”  Malia handed Lucy 1/5 lollies.  and everyone gets their share, Emma get a little bit more, too.  “Thanks to you two we got away from Mr Dracula.  You deserve more lollies.” Malia also gave them hand-made badges.  “Lets go home now, honey!”  A strange voice shouted.  Everyone looked left and right, but no one.  “Over there!” Susie pointed up.  Two blue creature is sitting in a flying disk.  The creature has one eye, 4 arms and a angler at the top of it’s head.  “Ok”  Lucy also turned into the creature, but smaller.  Everyone watched with surprisement.  “Thanks for the lollies, guys! On the Garohides (Magazines) said lollies on Earth tastes good!  Lucy dropped a handful of lollies on her mouth.  Bye!”  When Lucy got into the disk by a light beam, the disk shoot away.
“Wow, thats... impressive.”  Emma said.
“Huh?  What's impressive?”  Malia asked.
“Lucy!”
“Who’s Lucy?  That girl who moved away from our school a month ago?”
“Oh, nevermind.”

Emma walked towards her home, Malia caught up.  Everyone in the group walked home, too.  “They must’ve used some kind of memory stick to erase your memory or something.”  Emma murmured.  “What?”  Malia is the kind of person that would ask a question until she got the answer.  “I SAID NEVERMIND.”  Emma slammed her door shut.

Duffy Theatre

Yesterday we watched the new Duffy show:Duffy Lost his Words.

Duffy dreamt a man called Professor Wordsharks, he take half the words from Duffy and Duffy now don't know how to read anymore.  Afi came in and go to school with Duffy.  It's Speech Competition today!

Professor Wordsharks send Duffy a letter and said he'll meet him in noon and have a bet.  If Duffy won, Professor Wordsharks will give all the words back.  If Professor Wordsharks won, he'll have the rest of the words.

They did a crossword and Duffy won.  Professor Wordsharks still want the rest of the words and he broke the promise and stole the rest of Duffy's words. But he only stole the English words and Duffy still knows how to speak Maori!  Afi and Duffy got all the words Professor Wordsharks had stolen and Professor Wordsharks never came back again.

My Dad's Birthday Cake

My mum brought a big, icy, chocolate cake with cream on it.  "What is it for?" I asked my mum.  "Your dad." Oh, yeah!  Today is my dad's birthday!

My dad came home early, so we get to eat the cake early.  We put 5 candles on, I lit 2 of them.  My dad wished, then he blew out the candles.  He took the first slice, cut it into lots of small triangle, and gave us one triangle each.  "It's too small!" my little brother moaned.  "You'll get a second piece." I said.  My brother ignored me, he kept moaning at my mum and dad.  At last, he got another massive piece on his plate.  Now he is happy, he started munching.  I took a bite, YUM and then another.  I finished my piece in 5 bites.  Meanwhile, my dad and mum took Tiny Tiny bites.

We finished one piece each, my brother and I are on the second.  My mum and dad finished eating and clear their plates.  Then, my brother started to moan again.  "I can't finish this!  It's too much!"  I munched Tiny bites like my mum and dad.  "YOUR the one that want a second piece!"
my mum said.
"But I can't finish this!"
"Leave it there and finishes it later then."
"OK."
My brother ran out of the room, which leaves only me.  Meanwhile, I'm still taking Tiny Tiny bites.
At last, I finished my second piece.  It feels so good!  My brother came back, because my mum told him to finish it.  I packed my plate and went playing.
YUMMIEST CAKE EVER!
