At tech, year 8 are learning to program a plat-former game. We listed all the properties and special points of several examples on the website Scratch, then brainstormed ideas which we made into a survey. Currently, we're designing the themes and giving general ideas.

Shading

This is what I know about shading. It is hard to fit a picture in there, so I didn't attempt to.

Paul Cezanne Still Life

We tried to replicate Paul Cezanne's still life paintings. To the left is the original, and to the right is my version. I think that the colours that I used are too dark, and the brush is too thick to paint the details. The jar also looks crooked, and I will try to improve on that later. One thing I did learn is how to shade using darkening colours.

Term 1 Highlights

The thing I enjoyed most about term 1 is art and maths, because it was really easy.  I learnt how to ask people how are you in Maori. It was tricky reading with my buddy in Room 4, because she wouldn't talk.  My favourite thing was going to food tech, because we get to eat all the food we made.  I'd like to improve the way we did maths because some groups didn't get much time with the teacher. I'm looking forward to learning Japanese next term.

Ancestral Poem

First we took a photo of our fingerprint, then our teacher enlarged it.  We traced around the lines, then got a new piece of paper to write our poem on it.

3D Hand Art

1. Trace you hand with a pencil.(NOT VIVID)
2. Draw straight, even lines with vivid(If you want to you can do pencil first) in the background. Not on the hand.
3. Connect the lines with an arc over the space of the hand.  Don't do it too arched, or too straight.
4. Your end results should look like the picture, but without colour.
5. Choose two colours, and colour it in switching the colours every line.
6. Shade the colours to make the picture look 3D.

We made this piece of art to add to the Class Treaty.

Collaborative Art

We made a huge piece of art using little squares, each containing a quarter of a circle.  Each person in my class made 2 pieces, and then we put it together.  We measured the quarter circles using compasses, and colored it in using pastels.

Confidence

It is important to have confidence because if you don't, you'll never learn a new skill because you'll be too scared to try it.

Hexagon Art

This is my hexagon art.
I used a protractor and a compass to do the outlines and then used pastels to color it.  The thing I like best about it is the repeating colors.  I would try a totally different pattern next time.

Holiday Reading #2 - Choose your Own

Book title: How to Train your Dragon
Author- Cressida Cowell

My choose your own is about creating my own dragon.  The original book is so different from the movie, in fact, they actually capture a dragon when they're young and tame it.  I'm currently reading Eragon, as well.

My own dragon:
Color - Gray/Silver/Violet
Favorite part: Wings
Special Points: Spikes in a line all the way from head to toe, a huge spiked ball at the tip of its tail, transparent and messy wings.

Holiday Reading #2 - The Secret Life of Codes - Luigi's

This is a non fiction book written by Kjartan Poskitt.
What I think Luigi's look like:

A sentence that describes Luigi's:

Behind Luigi's counter a green curtain hung across a doorway leading to a back room,

Transformation Art

This is my transformation art.
It uses 3 media- Pastel, Crayon & Dye and Paint.
The first row is reflected
The second row is rotated
The third row is translated
I really like my first row.
Next time I would be more careful with my paint.
