Mihi

This is the mihi I wrote about myself.  I need to remember all the words, and next week everyone in the class will be tested if they know their mihi.

Meariki: the Quest for Truth

This is a panel from Meariki: the Quest for Truth.
It is my favourite panel because it shows the spider's point of view.

Auckland Museum @ Panmure Library

Photo

We went to the Panmure Library and met Mama Piri & Tau from the Auckland musuem & Ruth from the library.

First we were told a story about a rat and an octopus.  The whole story is about a rat, who drifted into the ocean a log, found an octopus and cried for help to it.  The octopus agreed to help, but the rat needed to pay back.  Then they went to land, and the rat didn't pay back and scrathched octopus's head while it's on it.  The octopus was very angry and he swear he'll eat every rat he sees.  That is why the rat-shaped octopus catcher works.

Then we did some coloring, Ruth was the judge and she choose 4 girls and 4 boys to win the prize. Next we made these skirts made out of brown paper and had a fashion show with 2 boys and 2 girls.
At last we said goodbye, and walked all the way back to school again.

My favourite part was making the skirts.

The star fishes

One day mother fish said to the little fishes:“keep close to the rock and don’t go to the sea”.

“Because Tataraimaka the giant is going to fish today with his big, black, magic net.” mother fish said.

The sea was quiet, the little fishes swam to the sea.

But the 7 little fishes played tag and forgot what their mother said.

Then all the 7 fishes were caught by Tataraimaka.
The fishes cried and shouted and made the sea salty with their tears.

God of light Tane felt sorry for the fishes, so he used his magic and floated the fishes to him.

Then the 7 fishes turned into Matariki.

They are called:
Toheta
Toheti
Tupuanuku
Ururangi
Waipuna-a-rangi
Tupu-a-rangi

One star is left no name because it is left for a child that feels lonely to put their name on.
